Check out “Around and About”

We have a new reporter, Sean posted a comment to the ‘About Page’ and I tried to set it up so anything he posts would automatically be okayed. But- that isn’t working. I don’t know, maybe there’s something intrinsic in WordPress’ subroutines that is confused and doesn’t like his global account or something. So anybody, if you’ve sent us a comment or tried to write an article that disappeared, send email to “ttalxalot@aerendel.ca”. And if that doesn’t get to me, we might have to get Alex Jones or Jesse Ventura on the case. hmmmmm-

—————uh, who am I? This 24 hour  alzheimers stuff is a pain in the brain…

Yes, Elections Happened.

Arnprior had the biggest voter turnout in the Province of Ontario.  (And thank you, Sean, for giving the results in your reply to the “Elections Coming” article.)

64.6% of eligible voters voted.

One town councillor and the Reeve were the only two incumbents to return (out of 7). Ex Mayor Terry Gibeau lost his bid to become a Councillor (he said he wanted to work on the loose ends left over from the last 4 years) by 9 votes.

There was a controversy over the Town Clerk’s call to extend voting 24 hours when ‘Intellivote’ nearly imploded with the volume of people trying to vote at the figurative last minute (I think, if you try to call something “Smart” ((as in smart meters)) or hint at a product being intelligent- That should be a giant red flag to everybody who might use that product to stay the he(ck) away and spend their money more wisely somewhere else. Smart meters have been used by electric companies in Texas to turn down the amount of electricity flowing into apartments, thus turning off air conditioners on a 100˚F + day (over 40˚C) which resulted in the deaths of senior citizens who were not able to get out of those apartments as the temperature soared way above 110˚F/45˚C. I haven’t heard of the utility companies that do stuff like that being charged with murder, YET! )

Other municipalities, facing the same problem had extended their deadline by one hour. Arnprior extended the deadline by 24 hours in an attempt to be as fair as possible. There was some local grumbling, but most of the feedback from ‘experts’ said Arnprior did the right thing.

ah well, I should climb down from the soap box and get on with things….

Gas Prices Have Risen Again, so what else is new?

But we knew that was coming, right?

Most stations are at 111.9¢ per liter. The car wash on Madawaska Blvd was actualy the cheapest gas in town for one day.

One possibly odd thing is that the Mr Gas is now an ESSO Station and the Petro Canada Station (Mac’s) is now Shell. (I heard that Shell and Macs stores formed a sweetheart alliance.)

The crime is: Oil companies have created false shortages and there really is no good reason why gasoline should cost any more than 25¢ per liter.  -ack? maybe we should just let the idiots shoot themselves in the feet?

Elections coming.

So far, I think we have 3 announced candidates for Mayor and at least 3 for Reeve. I think I read that there are nine candidates for the five Town Counselor positions.

I don’t think I should endorse anybody. I should try to be fair. If I say anything about anybody, I should make sure there is equal time for all the others, and all that.

Gas Prices Again

Monday, August 30, 2010. (29˚C @ Noon)

Gas prices have been going down since the big jump when the HST (“harmonized sales tax”) went into effect.

Currently most Gas Stations in Arnprior weigh in at 97.9 ¢ per liter, even the stations that used to be a couple pennies more than most of the others.

The car was station hasn’t posted their prices lately (maybe they wheel them in at night?)

Prince and the Prior Preparations

Lady in Lilac at Rehearsal
A Lady in a Lilac dress at Prince and the Prior Rehearsal

Because it rained earlier, a lot of people who might have otherwise shown up in their gowns for the dress rehearsal came in ‘civilian clothes’. The person above is ‘animating’ the part of the wife of ‘council person number one’.

Several Animators Attending Rehearsal
'Animators' attending 'Semi-Dress Rehearsal' are Given Direction.

Here, more of the ‘Animators’ are given direction and told where they will be during the actual re-enactment.

(More to come)
