Prince and the Prior Preparations

Lady in Lilac at Rehearsal
A Lady in a Lilac dress at Prince and the Prior Rehearsal

Because it rained earlier, a lot of people who might have otherwise shown up in their gowns for the dress rehearsal came in ‘civilian clothes’. The person above is ‘animating’ the part of the wife of ‘council person number one’.

Several Animators Attending Rehearsal
'Animators' attending 'Semi-Dress Rehearsal' are Given Direction.

Here, more of the ‘Animators’ are given direction and told where they will be during the actual re-enactment.

The Prince and the Prior

Museum with Folks in period dress
Arnprior & District Museum with people in 1860's dress.

Friday, 02 July, 2010.

The photo is from last week and has a man and a woman in period dress standing in front of the Museum.

‘Animators’, people in period dress, have been going out into the area towns to publicize the big event which will begin with people milling about from about 9:30 am.

The ‘Prince’ should arrive at Robert Simpson Park’s Beach between 10 and 10:30 am. (Do not try to get to the beach in a motor vehicle.)

There will be a reception near the beach in which re-enactors will re-enact greeting the Prince of Wales with flowers and singing, and proclamations.

There will be a dinner at what was the McLaughlin estate, which is now the Gallilee Centre.

People in period dress will be milling about the town until approximately 4 pm.

Prices Actually Went Down, before a weekend.

I thought ‘they’ would be trying to capitalize, big time, on the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico.

But gas prices actually went down as the weekend approaches.

Most stations in town are at 94.7¢ per litre.

Even the MacEwen Full Service Station on Madawaska Blvd that has the Ethanol was at 94.7¢ per litre.

Petro Canada at the Mac’s all night convenience store is at 94.9¢ per litre.

(Maybe I better pinch myself. But I did get some gas before they changed their mind.)

Hormone-fed cattle cause sexual dysfunction?

Dr John Gray (PhD) (the guy who wrote Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus?) has been researching the effects of hormones in food (among other things). Says: feminine hormones given to cattle to fatten them up lower the levels of testosterone in men, causing dysfunction, depression, lethargia and obesity. Estrogen’s effect on men causes ‘Grumpy old man syndrome’, lowers levels of testosterone, diables libido and makes men cranky.

He also says that Omega 3 stimulates brain activity, turns you on; while Omega 6 (vegetable oil) neutralizes the Omega 3, turns your brain off. Omega 9 (olive oil) is an anti-inflamatory.

Dr John Gray’s web site looks very commercial, but maybe you can get something out of something there..:

Interesting Quote from the States.

“The current financial crisis here is not a problem with the economy. It is entirely political. It is all about powerful individuals with a definite agenda attempting to manipulate millions of people into a position of powerlessness so they can be more easily controlled. Their agenda has nothing to do with guaranteeing the freedom and comfort of the U.S. citizenry. It is all about power and greed and the lengths that unscrupulous individuals will go to to line their own pockets at the expense of anyone and everyone around them.”

(I think the person being quoted is Catherine Austin Fitts (Link), but I want to be good and sure before I assign the credit or blame for this one.)

Heavy Wet Snow

Friday, 26 February, 2010:

I believe we got about 15-20 cm of heavy wet snow yesterday, the bulk of it falling in the evening.

After the snow plows
McLachlin Street, looking toward Elgin St. About 10:00 am.

It wasn’t pretty, it still isn’t.

Elgin Street was a little better than the side roads.

I might have gotten a more spectacular photo earlier, when the heavy trucks were doing their thing.

It’s about +2˚C at 11:00 am, and is a lot more sloppy and wet than anything else.
