- "Road Virk" -

– “Big Earth Moving Machines ‘upgrading’ our street -” –

— Steam Roller to the left of me – Two Monster things we used to call ‘Steam Shovels’ dead ahead, Monster Dump Truck in the distance & something actling like the world’s biggest fork lift to the right of the orange and white things warning drivers to avoid falling into deep holes… This was at about 12:33 pm – & I’m impressed at the speed of these guys’ work and how nice they’ve been to us –

-"Road Virk # 02" -

– “Another View of the Steam Roller & Work in Progress.” –

— Today is Garbage Day and this week it’s paper recycling collection day – There’s a hint of our recycling just this side of the steam roller’s tires.

-"Recycling, Butt End of Steam Roller & a wider shot of our driveway connected to our street." -

– “A better shot of where our driveway now connects to the street?” –

— Last Friday I didn’t get a wonderfully framed shot of where our driveway connects to our street – so in keeping with ‘Redundancy R Us’ I took another shot – this time with hints of recycling, steam roller and another Earth Mover behind a utiity pole. The road crew calls in a special truck with a special arm to reinforce the ‘uprightness’ of utility poles when they’re digging close to what they hope is stable ground at the base of those poles.

-"Driveway"-

– “Many Canadians refer to driveways as ‘laneways’ – And this is what our driveway looked like at just before 12:30 pm today -” =

— I took a video of the two big ‘steam shovels’ working together up the street a bit – but WordPress didn’t want to mess with any graphics files that big so you don’t have to suffer through two steam shovels dancing together and not knocking each other out –

Friday – August 8th, 2025 – We can Access our driveway again. = Whooopeeee?

-Friday, August 8th, 2025 – +29˚C / +85˚F & sunny @ 7:43 pm in New Brunswick, Canada – Uhhh – Gary Chomic’s { SP?} Birthday And I think it was Sheila Beamon’s {SP?} Birthday, too –

- Driveway, Construction Evidence & Caution Tape-

– “@ 5:59 pm. My Favourite Person parked our Rogue in our drieway – Yay!” –

— We made sure our next door neighbour, who let us park in her second driveway – that used to be the driveway to a woodworking workshop – had room to park beside our car in our driveway. – This is a much bigger thing than you might guess. We were afraid we’d have to leave our car parked on the next street all weekend – where we couldn’t see it from here – where it might be in danger of people or bears trying to smash their way in for something they might imagine might be worth breaking and entering for???

Sixx feet tall guys working in the pit in front of our neighbour's driveway @ 10:35 am this morning

-“@ 10:35 am this morning -there was about an eight feet deep pit in front of our neighbour’s driveway -“

— When construction began on Monday – our next door neighbour let us park in front of the cement block building that used to be her husband’s grandfather’s wood working shop – you can’t see their garage like building that is now storage for our neighbours’ whole extended family. And the guys in that pit are something like six feet tall – each.

Not a real good photo of our non-driveway access at 10:36 am this morning.

– “I took this photo quickly and could have framed it a lot better – but -“

— And at 10:36 am this morning the hole in front of out driveway wasn’t as spectacular as the pit in front of our neighbour’s driveway – But a four foot drop to a sudden crash against a future storm drain and cover wouldn’t have made our Rogue feel loved – and I wasn’t fully awake enough to take a couple more photos that could have shown this better – but the guys were already working and had been since about 7:00 am and I didn’t want to make them nervous –

Our driveway in the foreground and the newly finished ramp up to it -

– ” At about 4:30 pm – We had just about given up hope that we could go rescue our car and bring it home to our driveway – but when I got brave and walked outside with my iPhone – I saw that we actually had access all the way t Canada Street. -” –

— Yay – The brown-ish stuff in the foreground is the street end of our driveway, and the blue-ish grey stuff is the newly worked and heavily crushed in place ramp {their steam roller shook the whole neighbourhood every time they moved it} but Mercury still is retrograde for a couple more days – and after messages told me I couldn’t survive without the next update to Firefox this site looked like the update ignored all the settings – at least on the laptop with the latest and ‘greatest’  {{???}} Mac operating system.

-This is what the blog is suppose to look like-

– “This is what this ‘Jernil’ blog is supposed to look like,” –

— Above is what the “New Jernil” WordPress blog has looked like all along { except for today’s entry being there } –

- And this is what the 'Jernil' looks like after it's "gotta have it' update on the latest Mac OS on a decent MacBook Pro -

– ” Und ziss is vhat dis zame blog looks like on much newer laptop with latest Mac Operating system after today’s Schnarr update.” –

— To Euphemize a new expession used on the latest issue of Wired Magazine –  Above is what the ‘En-poop-ified’ latest update on my newest laptop made dis blog look like. Grumble grumble grumble….

Monday – December 9th, 2024, -8˚C / +18˚F , Dark and Cloudy @ 10:30 pm Atlantic Time in Atlantic Canada –

– Monday, December 9th, 2024 -8˚C / +18˚F, Dark & Cloudy @ 10:30pm Atlantic Time, = here in Atlantic Canada, A.K.A. the Maritimes – { WordPress doesn’t like the word ‘Maritimes’ } & it’s my first natural born next generation cousin, Kathy’s Birfday for another hour and a half here – little bit longer where she is. I was working as the { Nickname: ‘Gopher’ } @ the Bridgeport Post Newspaper when she was born – I told one of the women who worked on the ‘Society’ page of the Sunday Edition – about my brand new cousin – and she sort of interviewed me – found a photo of my Aunt, Claudia, {Kathy’s mother} somewhere in the paper’s ‘Morgue’/archives – and ran a little article about the happy occasion. I didn’t expect that } <— Redundancy is like Deja Vu all over again, like Deja Vu all over again?

A guy I worked with.

-“I worked with this guy in the US Postal System – before I fell in love with a Canadian and told myself I didn’t have to put up with the Postal Supervisors insane bullying. I couldn’t stand watching ice-holes pick on people who were vulnerable while some of the best and nicest and most dedicated people in the world delivered the mail -“

— Jay Moran, above, was one of the very good ones. He and a group of his closest work friends made working in the US Post Office system almost tolerable in spite of the jerks who wanted to sabotage the Post Office and sell it off to Private industry.

— The ‘manager’ of the Stratford, Connecticut Branch of the Bridgeport, Connecticut post office, vandalized a parking garage because he was pissed off  over the fact that parking had always been on a first come, first served, basis. He believed that as a supervisor his exalted position warranted a reserved parking spot just for him. When the grievances were filed and the supervisors and Post Master realized they probably could not win his case, he snarled about that and told everybody in a morning lecture that he had decided to let the old ways continue.

— He also sent an African American Custodian out to buy stuff at a hardware store and laughingly told one of the injured guys on light duty to quickly go and grab that custodian’s parking spot so he’d have to park out on the side street, and when the custodian got back from that errand and did park on that street, the manager called the Stratford Police Department and demanded they ticket people parking in the street because they were preventing legitimate customers from access to good parking.

— The same manager couldn’t stand the idea that two African American women clerks could sit on stools while they worked when he had been told by the higher up the food chain supervisor he called ‘They Psycho” {Second supervisor in the hierarchy below the Post Master – that if he { the psycho ] ever caught him { the manager, also nicknamed ‘The Snake” } if the [psycho ever caught the snake sitting on his [ butt ] while the letter carriers were working to get their routes together and get out in time to finish in time – He { the snake } would be flipping hamburgers for a living. The two women – one was six months pregnant and the other had just had planter warts surgically removed from her feet. – The manager/snake invented a false complaint from a customer who – the snake said – found the pregnant woman asleep at the counter and when he woker up, she was verbally abusive to him { the make-believe customer }. I was the clerks’ steward – the snake told me about the letter, I said, “Show me the letter, I’ll write to that guy and explain that she’s six months pregnant – and -” the snake looked at me, shook his head, disgusted, and walked away – two weeks later he told me he “had to remove the stools from behind the counter because he got a complaint from a customer – et cetera, like he thought I would forget his earlier attempt to sell me the same lie? I responded the same, “Let me see the letter – I’ll write to the guy and explain that those two women have to sit down, one’s six months pregnant and the other just had surgery on her feet -” and he walked away shaking his head again. And then, less than a week later – he { the snake }  looked at me, and went to the counter and then – singing a little nonsense song to himself to make sure I noticed what he was doing – he walked away from the counter swinging the two stools as he walked to his office where he hid the stools from the clerks. I filed a grievance – and with my detailed written witness account listing his lies and continued attempts to remove the stools, and other witness account to the ‘psycho’ threatening the ‘snake’ with losing his job – the supervisors above the snake in the post office supervisory food chain wouldn’t let that grievance get to anywhere where that kind of racist shenanigans could be made public.

—And, during his on going campaign to get the African American Custodian fired – and/or ‘give him the treatment’ to the point where he’d quit – He, and the Psycho – wanted to get rid of a Hispanic American Letter Carrier – the snake unlocked the windows on the carrier’s jeep at least twice while no one was watching, but the carrier did notice that the windows were not locked each time, wondered if somebody had used his jeep to deliver special delivery stuff before the carriers came to work, and forgot to lock the windows closed the first time, and the carrier wondered if he’d been so distracted that he didn’t lock the windows back up the second time – and there was one street on his route with a hill, he’d have to go up and over the hill and would lose sight of the jeep for several minutes while he delivered the mail on the other side of that hill { And the carriers were all told where they had to park their jeeps where supervisors cruising around, checking on them, could spot their jeeps and know where they were, know whether they were on time or not and know they weren’t ‘goofing off’-  hiding somewhere – When the Hispanic letter Carrier came back up over the hill both the snake and the ‘psycho’ were trying their damnedest to pull the windows open so they could charge the carrier with ‘Failure to properly preserve the sanctity of the mail in his charge-‘ which – the psycho had already told me what he could do to get rid of dead weight – would be one more step they could charge him with to eventually get him fired for not working up to the standards the post office required of its employees. When he got to his jeep and the snake and the psycho were standing there, the carrier asked, “Can I help you with something?” and the snake and the psycho hissed and snarled and stomped off to their car and drove away,

— -My skin wasn’t thick enough to put up with the insane bullying done by too many US Post Office Supervisors – But the conscientious, dedicated guys who delivered the mail, sorted the mail and packages behind the scenes, and worked the counter and sold stamps and other post office services, were danged nice people.

— I could believe in those nice people and tell myself there was enough good in the post office – but the supervisors who lied on official documents and tried to get away with vandalizing to try to get themselves a designated parking space – and sent people off their prescribed routes so they could be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time – That wore me down – I came down with pneumonia three times in two years and my doctor said, maybe I should think about getting a job with less stress.

— And then somebody who needed love and attention and positive reinforcement told me she loved me and I tried to make that work, in New York State – five hundred miles away. And while I was five hundred miles away the snake tried to have me arrested for vandalizing the jeeps that were in the carrier’s lot. One of the carriers told me about that a couple years later while I was visiting family ‘back home’.

"The Fifth"

“Our Driveway, wasn’t quite this pretty today-“

— Within the past couple days – we got a little more snow than what shows above – and learned that our snow blower is on strike –  but the driveway was clear enough to satisfy the love of my life and that really matters. { I didn’t go outside and take any iPhone photos while there was enough daylight to say so -}

"One of the two laptops working over-time"

-“One of two laptops working overtime to try to keep up with me…” –

— The above laptop – with its two larger additional monitors is on my left side right now, north of me? – I’m facing east, with another laptop and its two external monitors working just as hard as the monitors to the north – the laptop to the east is something like six months younger than the one to my left.

—Details? okay – the tall slim monitor to the right in the above photo – plays host to two pages of “Open Office” writer – the free version that, thankfully, is NOT “Micro-Schnarr  Wyrd” the tall monitor {well, it’s a wide monitor that doesn’t mind being tipped on its side } Holds two pages that I can copy and paste back and forth from the top page to the bottom or bottom to top. the 4K monitor on the left should be handy for messing with photos and screen shots that I’ve been trying to incorporate into a WordPress ‘Blog’ – and/or – the 4K monitor can hold apps and pages that hold email and other things that I want to use to find and attach paragraphs and graphics to email messages that are responses to friends, family, and extended family. { I could qualify for the position of poster boy for health care Public Service ads that support the message, “Multi-Tasking’ Definitely IS  a very dangerous threat to your health and peace of mind.” }

— That’s not all. While I’m copying and pasting stuff into one of my blogs and editing stuff that I think is important over there on the left – The really important writing stuff is to the east, on the other laptop, in in front of me. I’ve got something that I thought I could finish editing and maybe even self-publish and send out as holiday presents to people who might appreciate the fact that I finished something and published it, but would probably rather sit at a table and accept the cold wet bean from the baby J.D. Salinger mentioned near the end of ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ – or even undergo dental surgery without an anaesthetic than read ‘hard copy’.

— Now here’s the problem – With the latest ‘you gotta have this’ updates and upgrades to the operating systems on both these laptops – they no longer keep the batteries fully charged. They believe they’re clever as hell as they answer, ‘How the fupp do I turn off the b.s. pain in the rump routine where-in you ice-holes believe that not keeping my laptops’ batteries fully charged is the most wonderful idea you idiots have had and implemented since Steve Jobs probably walked away from your Corporate bull-chips shaking his head, thinking he should have shot most of you instead of letting you join the company the two Steves so lovingly gave birth to?’ —> Um, they answer legitimate questions without the nasty descriptive attacks on their integrity – with double talk and patting themselves on their backs, bragging about how wonderful their idea is and saying the laptop batteries don’t like being charged over capacity or even being kept up to full charge … but older laptops never had a problem remaining fully charged, and never developed problems that made using them an exercise in incredible frustration:

— But don’t’cha think it might be just as easy and even more wonderful to add a couple lines of programming to their routines and Not try to charge the bleep bleep batteries when they’re fully charged, but get the danged things up to full charge and let them sit and dream and – Or maybe even add a manual switch to let the stupid power from the ‘charger’ run the computer while it’s connected – and only charge the stupid batteries when they need a charge?

— Ya know how I know that their cutesy poo question-deflecting bull-chip non- answers to ‘How do I turn off your gawd danged “Charging is on Hold because you rarely use your computer on battery only” fupping message?’ —> Because when the gawd awful batteries have only been recharged to 80% the 4 K monitor blinks off and on – more off than on – so it’s basically un-useable. I can’t do anything while the screen is black because I can’t move the bleepitty bleep bleep mouse cursor to where it needs to be to help me edit, select, copy and/or paste anything – and when I move something to the laptop’s ‘built-in display’/monitor – it’s too fupping small – I need a gawd danged magnifying glass to read anything on that screen.

— Remember when Apple Computer’s greatest claim to fame was that it was a lot more user-friendly than the alternatives? I do. Apple went to hell when they tried to be friends with Bill Gates and allowed him to include his internet exploder browser with the bundle of new software that came with new computers. & That was before he publicly admitted that he believed this world would be a lot better off if the powers that believe they should be in charge of everything went and reduced the population of this world back down to something like under 500,000,000, or maybe even 500,000 – { Look that up. } & – Remember when Monsanto’s radio ads called itself the ‘Grocer to the World” instead of what we’re getting now = “Either we stop Monsanto or Monsanto will be the end of the Human Race.”

— Some smug ice-hole would probably sneer at me and say, “The solution to your problem is simple, upgrade to the latest computers with the latest operating system… and blah blah blah -” Yeah – right. buy me a new super computer that I can’t afford – every year and that won’t even shut the morons up …

Sunday – August 27, 2023 —> Back home after a mostly happy eventful week bopping around the Province …

-Sunday, August 27th, 2023 – +19˚C / +68˚F & Partly Cloudy @ 7:07 pm Atlantic Time in New Brunswick, Canada –

- "Cathi Smiling At Lakeside Cottage" -

“Cathi enjoying herself at a lakeside cottage in Maxwell, New Brunswick’

— It was so good to see Cathi relaxed and enjoying our stay at a cottage on the lake where her ex-mother-in-law –  and her children’s grandmother had a cottage for many years. Her Registered Nurse Daughter planned the week and chose two cottages – one on this lake and the other very close to the beach in Cap-Pelé, New Brunswick. Cathi got to swm in the lake at the first cottage and in the North Atlantic Ocean { / Northumblerland Strait? } at the second.

- Lake around sunrise -

– “Lake a bit affter a cloudy sunrise- 07:12am” –

— I woke up early enough to go outside on the cottage’s deck and do my Yoga exercises and Meditate while everyone else was sleeping – On Tuesday morning, the 22nd of August – I was greeted by a Loon calling out to the morning and/or one of its buddies – or maybe warning rivals away from its territory? And then a crow made weird noises in a tree somewhere in a direction nowhere near the Loon. Anyway the lake was glassy smooth and the chill was refreshing.

- Lake In Maxwell, New Brunswick - Early morning - with fog In Distance -

– Same Lake – in Maxwell,New Brunswick, from the same cottage’s deck- this time at 06:25 am – with fog in the distance –

— Wednesday Morning, Aprés Yoga – Same Lake, same angle – I stepped closer to the ‘railing’ { ? } – It was a bit chillier – { +8˚C = about 48˚F } – And the fog in the distance was curling up from the lake’s surface –

- Three Freinds On the Cottage's Deck -

– Three Friends on the deck at the cottage –

— Cathi’s daughter { centre } with her husband { on the right/her left } and her long time best friend { on the left/her right } –  {{{ The CBC network news channel did another exposé today on the evils of facebook selling private information to the highest bidders —> So, if you know us – you know their names. }}}  {{ maybe I should add a smiley face sticking its tongue out here and maybe, “Nyaaaa!” aimed at facebook? }}

- Cute Sign Number One -

– Cute Sign Number One –

- Cute Sign Number Two -

– Cute Sign Number Two –

— There were several cute / amusing signs at the Lake Cottage – at least two explaining the Rules of spending time at the lake —> all variations on enjoying yourself, laughing, being silly; relaxing and enjoying yourself. I thought the two signs above were worth noting.

- Beach At Low Tide -

– Cathi on the beach on Northumberland Strait / one of the warmest beaches in the North Atlantic –

— We checked out of the Lake Cottage and drove to the Cottage near the beach on the Northumberland Strait – The day we made the drive Cathi went swimming with her daughter, son-in-law, and her daughter’s best friend while I played hermit and stayed behind, nursing my nervous stomach – Cathi said the tide was coming in around 4 pm on that first day – and I came along and took some photos on our second day at that cottage – With possible heavy rain forecast for later that evening – { forecast to start around 7:00 pm } – just before one pm we walked the short distance from the cottage to the beach and this was an expansive private beach with a public beach – I don’t know – half a mile or a mile to the right of the above photo here –

- oops - Apres Splash -

– Um, A sudden wind blew my hat off my head and when I reached for it – my iPhone took a dive –

— Walking in less than knee deep water, beside my step-son-in-law – A sudden gust knocked my hat off my head and when I tried to grab it before it hit the water my iPhone thought it might like a cool refreshing dip in the Atlantic Ocean – As I picked the phone up from – uhh – under maybe eight inches of sea water – it took the above photo all by itself – or maybe I touched the ‘take a photo’ button without realizing it-. those spots are not an invading force of UFOs – they’re water droplets. Cathi thought this shot would make a cool background photo. —> Not long after the camera took a dive – I stepped suddenly into a bit of slightly deeper water and lost my balance and while I tried t remain upright – the water had other ideas – and I took an unplanned dip in the glorious north Atlantic with the iPhone in my pocket – and learned not too long afterwords that the old “set the phone in rice to dry it off” trick actually works – it took about eighteen hours but the phone stopped complaining every time I tried to connect it to my laptop – { the iPhone was complaining that there was moisture in the connection port and trying to charge it or do anything else might damage the phone irretrievably } – { oops – next time I wanna go wading in the ocean with my iPhone or anything else that might be water sensitive – I promise I will have anything like that safely riding in a water-proof pouch. }

- Goofy Selphie -

– Goofy Selphie –

— I don’t take a lot of selphies with my iPhone – This one looks like it defaults to a wide angle persepctive that shrunk Cathi’s head and made the rest of her look like a weight lifter – If she hates it I will delete this photo – It didn’t look bad on the phone’s library of what I just shot –

- Telephoto shot of tall ship in the distance -

– Telephoto Shot of a Tall Ship in the distance –

— Saturday – between rain showers – we went to a nearby restaurant for lunch & it was “Yum!” – Fresh fish. The above photo was taken with my iPhone at about its telephoto limit, I rested the phone on what looked like a post that had once been part of a dock that maybe went out into the water but retired and was re-purposed near the restaurant – The ocean/strait was calm at the time – but we thought the tall ship might have sought refuge in the strait to ride out a storm that probably wasn’t all that calm at the time.

- "Not all Who Wander Are Lost" -

– “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” –

— The beach cottage had more artistic decorations – less cuteness hanging on the walls – but that “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” Message was poignant. —> Makes for a decent ‘Moral’ to this ‘story’. 🙂

P.S. I just checked this ‘post’ to see what it looked like and to catch any typoes I might have missed and after years of sharing wonderful tweets from friends and decent artists and photographers — It looks like the new management at twitter got their heads so far up their ‘you-know-what’s’ that they’ll never get a glimpse of anything like reality outside the narcissistic world of beedy grastard-ness. Saturday, November 26th, 2022 —> Dear Apple Support:

Saturday, November 26th, 2022 – +2˚C / +37˚F {?} in Atlantic Canada @ 12:36 pm Atlantic Standard Time –

Copied and Pasted from an email Message My Friend Doug BCC’ed me on:

= = = = =

— Dear Apple Support,

— No, your stupid answer to my question was no bluddy help at all.

— I have memory slots on my Power PC G5 that were perfectly healthy last week – then they began reporting that two of those slots had 512 MB of memory when I knew they had 1 GB Ram Memory Each.

— Then the slots suddenly reported to their “About this Mac” app that the slots that had half their memory showing were “Empty”

— I asked your support page how the memory slots’ numbers were configured on a G5 motherboard, so I might know which memory chips might have dropped dead, or which memory slots stopped functioning.

— Your ‘tech support’ routine answered with totally unrelated B.S. about Mac Pro Towers.

— And your text input box that said, “Please tell us how we can improve this page” was greyed out and wouldn’t let me type anything. So I’m typing here and posting this on Facebook – I don’t trust Facebook – but I trust twitter even less since it looks like Elon Musk bought twitter so he could destroy it.

— How could you improve your support pages and Public Relations Reputation? Go Back to your original policy of supporting every Apple and Mac { And Lisa? } ever made – and reflecting that on your down-graded ‘Support’ pages.

— If this was an audio post you would now be listening to an extended Bronx Cheer –

— Don’t you dare have a single Nice Day until you fix this.

— — — — — Sincerely,

— — — — — Douglas Jay Otterson in New York State

Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 – Cathi got to swim :) –

Cathi At Killarney Lake, taking a photo

– Cathi after swimming in Killarney Lake – Taking a photo with her smart phone –

— After missing several chances to go swimming this summer { & she really wanted to take a dip in the ocean while we were on P.E.I. – but it was either raining or we had to be somewhere  🙁 } Cathi finally got to go jump in a lake here – maybe north of the Fredericton, NB city limits? Maybe just inside the borders?

Killarney Lake - showing lifeguard station and cloud formation

– The clouds were interesting – and the lifeguards were on duty –

— I think this might have been the last weekend before school starts – I wanted to get the clouds and as much of the beach as I could and still be unobtrusive – didn’t want to bother anybody or scare any young women into thinking I was trying to get snooping shots of their cleavage { Does anybody use that word any more? } – I knew I missed interesting photos of a happy little dog riding on the bow of a stand up paddle board – but – I did get the clouds, and I hope I didn’t bother anybody.

Killarney Lake

– Killarney Lake is not a huge lake – But Cathi said the water was just perfect –

— And there were little bits of stories posted on what might have been four by four posts that had been driven into the ground with maybe three feet showing above the ground. I thought some – if not all – of those stories were from Traditional First Nations Historic story tellers.

Computer Schnarr – Upgrades, Updates, Cloud Schemes, Banksters, Con Artists & Extortion

Wednesday – August 24th, 2022 —> +21˚C / +68˚F – cloudy & grey @ 4:00 pm in Atlantic Canada –

- Mac Screen Stalled during updates -

– August 21st, 2022 – “Mac Restart Stalled during updates” –

— I’ve spent way too much time in the past few weeks updating, upgrading and tweaking stuff on my computers.

— { I’ve got two Windows 10 or later desktop computers because I need them to connect to the interactive muti-player game I’ve been deigning since 2007 – One to do my ‘heavy lifting’ and the other is good for testing how the game will play for anybody who can’t afford the really expensive stuff I need to build the world and do all the stuff needed to get the game workable – And usually have more than one Mac turned on and connected to the internet almost always because lately Apple is no longer hyper- conscientious about making sure that every new upgrade and update is 100% compatible with all previous versions of its operating system, et cetera – and I’ve got programs and ‘apps’ that won’t run on the latest upgrades – and newer programs & apps that won’t run on the older versions of the operating systems – and I need all that stuff to work – }

— Every time I sat down to do anything – it seemed – one of my ‘apps’ was having an anxiety attack – trembling and pleading with me for their next ‘gotta have’ security update – web browsers, blog software, even operating systems would even freeze my ability to do anything until they got their updates or upgrades.

— Case in point – I have ‘Avast Secure Browser’ that claimed to be the most secure browser on the ‘Free’ market when I thought – okay – let’s see how this goes. The only thing I do with that that browser is sign into and out of my bank account. —> the bank came up with a scheme to try to convince me a couple years ago that I NEED to give it my cell { iPhone } number for security purposes. – This particular bank has been caught ‘with their hand in the cookie jar’ of personal ‘private’ information – using their ‘Web Banking’ “Service” allows them to snoop on all of your browsing, and they can mine all the information on your computer and sell that information to the highest bidder – sounds like a bizarre ‘conspiracy theory’ right? But they were caught – and admitted to misuse of their clients’ personal information and web presence details. – I believed that using a ‘secure browser’ would disable their ability to use their ‘cookies’ to snoop and pry into everything on my computer – the browser deletes cookies when I sign out of the bank site and keeps the information I need to sign back in next time – right? – Or have I been duped into believing I’m safe from the demonic schemes of more than intrusive Big Brother types who want to steal and sell information to insidious advertisers who want to disrupt everything I do on my computer – pop advertising between me and what I’m trying to do and make every session on the computer take  at least twice as long as it should? Gack! —> But wait, there’s more – in the name of ‘Security’ they imposed ‘2 step Verification’ a couple years ago – and they really want access to everybody’s ‘smart’ cell phones – where they can sneak into your privacy and grab every little bit of information on your cell phone – where you’ve been, who you’ve called, everything you’ve posted on social media – who’s in your ‘contacts’ list – what apps you’ve stupidly downloaded – the alternative to allowing them to know everything about you via your smart phone is allowing them to call you on a land line telephone – if you haven’t succumbed to the urge to dump your land line service to avoid all kinds of sick scammers, fraudulent ‘relatives’ of deposed monarchs begging you to help them get their family’s fortunes out of their country with promises to share a large portion of those fortunes with you if you only deposit a couple thousand of your hard earned dollars with them first – and then they disappear into the vaporous atmosphere of the dark web. – the alternative to stupidly setting yourself up for all kids of insanity when all you have to do is make sure you have caller ID and never answer a call where the number is something you don’t recognize or is blocked or spoofed { nefarious con artists can pretend to be your friends – if you don’t answer calls from ‘800’ numbers you don’t recognize they can pretend to be your Aunt Grizelda { who you’ve added to your contact list in first place -} so when someone claiming to be Grizelda Aardvark you know it’s a scam and and ignore the ring and delete the voice mail as soon as the idiot with the disguised voice hangs up and goes on to try to con somebody else out of as much money as they can. *** So – with this 2 step verification process having a robot call your land line, you have to pick up on the first ring and be ready to write down the series of numbers the robot voice gives you and enter them perfectly in the correct order in their ‘security’ form in order to get access to your bank accounts – a mistake like hitting the wrong key or hitting two keys at a time while you’re typing in your verification code might mean you need to wait until the nearest bank branch is open and go stand in line for ten minutes because they’ve laid off as many tellers as they can get away with – and explain to the human teller you finally get to see that you got the verification wrong at three in the morning while you were checking to make sure none of the nonsense like what happened last time when some company in China told your bank you just spent half your pay check on something they spelled wrong and the address they gave never existed … happened again – { Isn’t life in this digital age interesting??? } and I avoid letting the bank call me while the love of my life is getting her much needed rest before she has to get up and deal with a bunch of morons both at her work place and over the phone and internet as part of her high stress job. – *** —> So – if you’re still with me – you just read a lot of words in a long paragraph that should explain why I need that ‘secure’ browser dedicated to one task only – connecting to my bank accounts —> now here’s the punch line —> that secure browser refused to let me do anything until I agreed to stop trying to connect and allowed them to ‘update’ their browser with the latest and greatest must have security update/upgrade – so I twiddled my thumbs and waited until the download and update were finished and then the routine ended with something like “You idiot – this browser can’t function unless you have the updated upgrade to the next generation Operating System on the computer you have, that might not be able to run with that upgraded Operating System —> when buying a new computer that can run that newer operating system might only cost you about $2,500.00 and a lot of frustration when you discover that everything you got for free with this older computer now costs extra for versions that work with the new operating system…. *** —> so I checked with Support dot Apple dot com and discovered that my twelve year old computer can work with the five year old operating system that is the minimum requirement for anybody who wants to use that ‘Secure Browser’ for only one task to minimum waking up tomorrow morning and discovering that some hacker in Russia, Turkey, North Korea or China has emptied your bank account, or sent the SWAT police to your house at three a.m. with bogus information that you’ve kidnapped a ten year old and has him or her locked up in your 1960’s fallout shelter, tied up, naked and terrified. … Yay – so I downloaded and installed the new old operating system and discovered that it wants to have all my apps operating from the iCloud – The free version of the iCloud allows you 5 gigabytes of space. The iCloud wants to store all your information in its virtual real estate and —> ‘Oops – you need more iCloud Space – and that will only cost you more than your computer is worth every month for the rest of your life -‘ { And the microsoft “One Drive” is even worse. It decided to compact graphic projects on me so they wouldn’t work at all when I tried to get them out of the One Drive and back on my Windows computer. Six months of long hours ‘creating’ stuff —> out the windows. } AAAaaaaaaaa! So – because I’m not completely brain dead, { not yet anyway } I discovered a way to get into the iCloud and tell it “NO – I do not want to have all my blasted apps sitting on the iCloud – storing information on the iCloud – costing me more than I can afford twelve times a year  !!!!”  —>And I learned you have to un-check a lot of boxes in three different places – AND – write your blinking Apple ID password in another box – several times – before it lets you tell it “NO I DON”T WANT THE FREAKIN ICLOUD TO STORE EVERY FREAKIN DIGITAL PHOTO I EVER TAKE —> NO – I DON”T WANT THE [ CENSORED } ICLOUD TO STORE EVERY MESSAGE I EVER WRITE DOWN TO REMIND MYSELF I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT OR NEED TO BUY EGGS AND MILK OR BREAK MY SPOUSE’S HEART EVERY MORNING NEXT WEEK WHEN SHE WANTS A STRESS FREE BREAKFAST BEFORE SHE HAS TO DEAL WITH COMPLETE FREAKING “ICE-HOLES” FOR 8  to 12 HOURS WHEN SHE ONLY GETS PAID FOR 8 – !!!” …et cetera …

— The first Word Press Blogs I got were free from WordPress – did not have a complicated or hard learning curve – and did not demand that I sign in to Dream Weaver of one of Microsoft’s useless, complicated, web page ‘creating’ pieces of crap. { I remember when I spent many hours on many days to convert the ‘Green Party Of Connecticut’s web pages from a one page, very long thing with a purple background into a much more ‘professional’ looking thing with ‘tabs’ that contained links to its various pages in the style and colours they had permission to copy from another state’s Green Party web presence – I did that in HTML – After the Green party got links to the ‘upgraded’ web pages before their state meeting {{ several local groups met in their own areas and sent delegates to central cities in the state for their monthly state meetings }} one of the local guys who helped me with information updates that he wanted to appear on their ‘upcoming events’ page and so on – told me that I got a standing ovation at the party’s state meeting – and an invitation to join the party and in lieu of the thirty dollars a year dues they normally charged for membership – they would like me to be their official web guy –  Then, one night around 11:30 pm – I got a call from that guy who wined on the telephone – “Jim – I just updated the events page using Microsoft’s front page and now there’s a wide blue vertical line through the middle of everything on that page and after everything I’ve tried that blue line won’t go away – can you fix it?” —> “Yes – I’ll do it-”  —> It took me all night – but I got it done { trail and error in HTML language } At seven thirty that next morning – the guy -using aol messenger – noticed that I was still on the computer connected through a phone modem – and sent me a message saying, good morning, what’s up? – I told him I just finished fixing what Front Page ‘Fupped’ up – he said ‘Wow – I’m going to go play tennis-” I laughed to myself, signed off and caught a couple hours of sleep before I had to get up and go work the night shift. I was their web guy until a recent university graduate whose parents bought him a copy of then pre-adobe Dream Weaver – that I couldn’t afford at the time – and he looked at the web sign and re-designed it to have the green leaves of a decent representation of a tree hold the links to all the pages and suddenly He was their web guy and I was around only to fix things that he couldn’t fix because he didn’t understand HTML and bugs that weren’t covered in whatever he learned at college were messing up pages he ‘created’ with his spiffy expensive software. {{{ And I didn’t bore you with details like I had finished a temporary job and been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia – treated at the Veterans’ Hospital for free since I had to move back into my parents home and be the default only capable driver and 24/7 unpaid home health care and free driver to get my sick father to the Vets’ Hospital any time he had  one of his very frequent Asthma attacks – and couldn’t work because I never knew when I’d be incapacitated by the condition that my ‘health care professional’ Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant kept reminding me that most real doctors believed that Fibromyalgia was all in the mind – and maybe the product of an unbalanced { mentally ill? } person’s lack of something that all ‘normal’ people have in their fine, upstanding human constitution.

— Grumble, grumble, grumble …

— The first computer I bought was an Apple IIe – that I had to borrow money from my credit union when I had a decent job with an indecent employer. The computer came with a ‘Duo Disk’ in the days when you had to start the computer with a five and a quarter inch ‘floppy’ in each of the drives to load the operating system. { the floppies had ridiculously small data capacity {{ 354 kilobytes ?  }} according to today’s standards. —> and the computer itself had 64 kilobytes of RAM and needed an extended 80 column card to show as many as 80 green letters and spaces against a black background in their CRT black and  green monitor. The first thing I thought  when I set the thing up and turned it on was, “Holy [ Chips ] this thing is smarter than I am -” and I wondered if I accidentally hit the wrong key combination – would it launch a nuclear strike on the White House? Or start World War The Last {{ after which the next war would be fought with clubs and stone hammers? }} Two weeks later I half convinced myself that I was a genius because I could load in the ‘Apple Writer’ software and write myself a two page excuse for a short short story – but couldn’t print it – and couldn’t do anything with it because I hadn’t ventured into the wonderful world of telephone modems yet. Then Apple works came out.  {{ “The greatest productivity software that nobody every bought.” – because friends could make copies of the software and give them away to their friends. }} The word processor was easier to use than ‘Apple Writer’ had been – the Spread Sheet needed a lot of careful setting up to work – like you had to know the esoteric name of each cell in a row and type it perfectly along with the mathematical equation that would tell that cell – for instance – to add up the numbers entered into the three cells to its left and magically display the total – or it could take the previously added total in a cell above and way to the right and subtract the total in five cells to its left and even more magically —> display the total balance you had left in your checking account after way too much typing and figuring out and double and triple checking that took probably an hour longer than it would have been to do all the adding and subtracting in the form that came with your latest order of bank checks. —> but I really liked the data base – it was simple to set up and you could easily add rows of stuff and keep track of any weird bits of ‘data’ you could imagine. … *** Data Bases lately are either insanely expensive or they’re so hard to figure out and use or so limited in what they can do that you sit there and stare at your computer and wonder how the bleep the people who create those idiotic data bases can stay in business.

— I got my first Macintosh computer from a second hand computer store that got several Mac computers from Yale University because some bum-kissing idiot head of some department at Yale thought that if he got rid of all his department’s Mac computers Bill Gates would fall in love with him and cut him real good deals on a bunch of ‘real’ computers that didn’t have the ‘WIMP’ factor { Windows, Icons, Mice and Pull-down menus } – I don’t think that worked out well for that idiot – but  got myself a fairly inexpensive couple years old computer that looked like a slightly grown up version of the first Macintosh computers, with an 832 x 640 pixel colour screen built in – its own 3.5 inch hard floppy drive built in and no need to load the operating system – it was already there – PLUS! – it came with its own telephone connection that you could plug a ‘CAT-4’ cable into and plug the other end of the cable into a modem – that were zoomingly fast at something like 1200 BAUD in those days. I learned how to make alias and put an alias to the trash can on the left side of the bottom of the screen while the real trash can sat on the bottom right corner – and I discovered weird and wonderful backgrounds for the screen display – a couple years later I gave that computer to my sister who wanted something to keep notes and a personal journal on – I gave it to her at a party at her property in rural Vermont and a drug high friend of hers said, “Oh I can show her how to use this – I know all about computers – took a look at the weird background and the two garbage cans and stared blankly – and spoke a phrase with the the hark ‘K’ version of – “What the Fupp is this????”

— I bought a refurbished 27 inch iMac in 2007 after I got my first paying job in Canada – and with it – bought a database program named ‘Bento 2’ from the wonderful folks who were selling ‘File Maker’ and ‘File Maker Pro’ for a lot more money than it cost to buy and have the ‘Bento’ data base shipped by Purolator Express back then. It wasn’t as easy to use or as versatile as Apple Works Data bases had been – but they could display pictures { photos or ‘Graphics’ like drawings or clips from screen shots } – I didn’t do a heck of a lot with that program – I used the still viable unsupported version of Appleworks for all kinds of things, like keeping track of my characters in computer games and stuff that only I would ever care to keep in a database.

— But then Apple Works wouldn’t work on later versions of Mac OS Xxxx… and the Bento did work – ‘upgrades’ were free and new templates included with those upgrades were cool to look at – so I could keep track of things like passwords to way too many blogs and email accounts —> But – when the wrong hard drive blew up and went irretrievably dead, I lost the upgrade and learned that the upgrade I never downloaded in time was no longer available and had to revert to the older Bento 2 something upgrade and winced and kept working with that. I made myself a database to keep track of my increasing number of necessary daily pills and vitamins – and another to keep track of every transaction in my bank accounts – that the bank will only show the last few months on its web site. – —> Every once in a while I checked eBay to see if anyone was selling one of the Bento upgrade disks with the spiffy new features and found one – and learned that it would no longer upgrade an existing older version of itself because File Maker had joined the League of Beedy Grastards and wouldn’t allow that. They tried to convince anybody who wanted to do that that the only solution to their frustration would be to subscribe to their “Cloud” version of Filemaker for a measly $1,000.00 plus per year. GAAAAA! so I copied everything I thought I’d need to copy from an old Mac Mini’s screen which sat next to my newer Mac Mini’s screen copied stuff from Bento 2 into  nearly identical data base with one or two more fun features on the newer Mac Mini’s { Unsupported } Bento 4 data base.

— Did I start to hint earlier in this epic that I had a couple WordPress blogs? Yeah, I have a few – at first they were only based on WordPress dot com’s proprietary web sites. Then they became available on my Canadian Web Provider’s platform, I had to call in and talk to somebody in Saskatchewan who loaded the WordPress blog into my account with a couple themes that she had me look at and approve of. A couple years later that Web Provider upgraded to a cpanel interface that offered WordPress blogs you could add to your site all by yourself, and they came with hundreds of possible themes, including some that were free and looked as good or sometimes better than the themes that third parties had developed and were selling at moderate to ‘Un-Fupping-Believeable’  prices.  —> a couple years later – ads started showing up on the WordPress blogs ‘hosted’ on WordPress dot com’s site(s?) { I looked at one friend’s ‘Anti-Big Oil’ blog and saw ads for oil company credit cards – and he told me some of the spam comments he got were from jerks who promoted expanding Canada’s oils pipe lines to keep the universe in gas and oil and grow Canada’s flagging economy. {{ One of my favourite books is “The Energy Non-Crisis” by Lindsay Williams, a Baptist Missionary who went to Alaska to minister to ‘those poor lonely men who were endangering their mortal souls by indulging in alcohol and loose women’ why the heck up north in the oil fields, hundreds of miles away from everything but alcohol and loose women for six months at a time – for big bucks – The oil company was so happy with the way he shamed their workers into not drinking themselves half to death – to the point where absenteeism was a major problem – his results were so good – they made him an honorary officer of their corporation. —.> then one day a big high powered executive was scheduled to come all the way up to their operation and the word went out that attendance to that executive’s talk was mandatory for all managers, supervisors and company officers. The ‘Pastor’ went to the meeting. The big shot got up and told them, “There isn’t any oil crisis. There never really was any oil crisis. And with what we know now – there never will be any oil crisis.” – Planet Earth manufactures oil in a process that does not involve decaying dinosaur carcasses – Deep space probes have discovered evidence of oil on planets and moons that could never possibly have supported dinosaurs. The oil industry is all one big collection of lying mudder fuppers – In the Alaskan oil fields alone – they are pumping natural gas back into the ground, that if they collected it and shipped it – they could supply the entire East Coast of the USA with Free power for at least the next three years. Oil drilling operations in either North or South Dakota are burning off hundreds of millions of dollars of natural gas all the time – BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO FLOOD THE MARKET WITH CHEAP GAS THAT WOULD DRIVE THE PRICE OF ENERGY DOWN. … The government of Canada was giving, and might still be giving the Alberta oil sands’ unethical – immoral – lying con artists so much ‘Corporate Welfare’ that they could have stopped supporting the lying ice-holes and with money they really didn’t need and buy every family in Canada an electric vehicle when they were more expensive than they are now. —> A retired US Air Force intelligence officer who gave daily briefings to both pResident { in the white house } Bushes told us in a video conference we had to pay to subscribe to – that the average US Congressman/woman got paid a salary of about $89,000.00 a year with added support for their staff also paid for, not out of their own pockets – but the average real { unreported } income of most of those representatives was more like between 2 and 3 million U$ dollars – when all the hidden gifts and kick backs were figured in.

Wednesday – August 17th, 2022 —> +19˚C / +66˚F & raining on Scott Catteral’s Birthday – 🙂 –

I just tried to post this on /dreams/ and the blog disappeared?

= = = = =

In a place where the sounds of youthful joy and enthusiasm abounded

I found several young people digging alongside an old abandoned road

Most of them gave up and went away to enjoy themselves

One guy kept at it and discovered a new spot where there were a lot of of

close -together hexagonal shaped flat stones with medium blue paint on

bas relief designs that had a Celtic flavor to them

beneath the stones { which were probably  two feet in diameter each }

there were lots of cassette tapes in pretty good condition

the last stone this guy raised had a garden hand tool – claws

the claws gave him the creeps – he hoped nobody used that tool to murder anybody – { else why would they bury it like this? }

Next

I was looking through an abandoned house near where I’d been assigned to live in a second floor apartment in a masonry building with my family

My family included Cathi and a couple other friends { I think we were all in our twenties }

exploring the abandoned house I found a notebook with details of the life and likes of a young celebrity – someone like Emma Watson?

I hoped that whoever had written down all those details wasn’t stalking the young actress – and decided to take the notebook and disguise it behind a notebook of my own in case the possible stalker was watching the abandoned house.

I went back to my apartment { apartment # 204 – with no numbers on the white washed doors } and thought I should bring that notebook to the police – but weighed that against the possibility that the police might believe that I was the stalker,

Van Gogh 360 Exhibit photo

– August 9th – Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada – “Van Gogh 360” Immersive Exhibit –

— I’ve got a lot to catch up with – but I’ve been so insanely bogged down with silly little things that needed attention – that by the time I sat down to write anything my brain went blank. { Schnarr – }

— But we did go to Prince Edward Island on August 8 through 10 and experienced the Van Gogh 360 Exhibit in Charlottetown – which was amazing – There are quite a few photos posted on facebook { on my ‘jim.wellington.33’ account. } There’s some other stuff above that post – I think it’s the fifth one down that was posted on August 12th – if you count the top one that doesn’t begin with the date, but starts with “Et puis – And Finally-”

Yard work to date

– “Yard Work To Date” August 15th –

— On the Home Front… We dug a trench along the western foundation of our house here { shown covered in ‘river rocks’ beneath the square black garbage can above } on the hottest, most humid days we’ve experienced since moving here nine years ago – I had to knock off early on several days while Cathi kept at it – and I spent several days with stomach muscle pains and guilt – but we got this much done and we’ll have more to do in the coming days.

— I’ve come to the conclusion that keeping up with television network news can be dangerous to your peace of mind. And every time I hear someone use the phrase “Mentally ill” I wish they’d come up with a more accurate description – I haven’t seen evidence of anybody’s brain literally throwing up yet – Several people have been known to spew verbal garbage around but that doesn’t necessarily make them ‘mentally ill’ or even ‘unbalanced’. Russia – especially under the Soviet style of ‘government’ had the attitude that anybody who spoke up against their government had to be crazy and locked them up in ‘mental hospitals’. The phrase ‘Mental Hospitals’ conjures images of ‘virtual institutions’ that probably never get closer to any concrete reality than maybe a drawing { in crayon? } but might be vivid in some autocrat’s imagination as a place to lock ‘enemies’ up so they { the autocrat } can stay in power.

— A Psychiatrist named Frankl said something along the lines of, -It isn’t our quirks or idiosyncrasies that make us ‘crazy’ – it’s the fear that people who are important to us believe there is something radically wrong with us.- { With the way we think? With the things we think about?  Or the way we express our thoughts? With the idea that we are not afraid to think about things that scare the ‘living cement’ out of the accusers? } Sometimes I think that anybody who accuses anybody else of being out of their minds is probably a lot crazier than the person he or she is accusing.

— I mean if the powers that think they be can accept the idea that people they used to call ‘retarded’ are more accurately described as ‘intellectually challenged’ and even that misses the mark – because most IQ tests only measure language and math skills when there are at least 7 different types of real intelligence – spacial intelligence – interpersonal intelligence – imagination? – musical intelligence { which uses advanced memory skills as well as mathematical skill and physical co-ordination and emotional intelligence? } {{ to name a few }} – and how about the difference between people who can think ‘outside the box’ to come up with solutions to problems that dyed in the wool orthodox thinkers can’t imagine?

— Um – yeah, back to ‘mental illness’ – People who grow up with abusive parents – especially psychologically abusive parents – may be more inclined to doubt their sanity than people who grow up with loving, nurturing parents – { if there really are any loving, nurturing parents who are able to overcome the stress of ‘modern life’ to be able to express their love, acceptance and encouragement on a day to day basis – } Hearing a raging alcoholic bombard your developing mind, personality, and self esteem with something like, “You belong in a nuthouse -” “You kids could drive a saint to swear-” “What the [ eff? } is wrong with you?” – Or how about authority figures who sneer at you and literally say things like “People like you don’t deserve to breath the same air as { white people? people who belong to a culture’s accepted religion? – people who subscribe to the political values that the speaker embraces? } … I’ve heard of authority figures and ‘wanna be’ authority figures who have told young people that they really should go home and kill themselves – for reasons unspoken and/or that wouldn’t sound at all reasonable to anybody with a functioning brain and ‘heart’.

— Ehh – sorry – I’d really like to be 1,000% positive and encouraging without dwelling on the fact that there really are abusive people in this world and many of them should never be given a license to become parents or even baby sitters.

— Schnarr –

— Have a wonderfully good life anyway? –
