Role players can hang out and<br \/>\ninteract in-character. Private Chat with one or many friends will be<br \/>\nmore than available. Instead of emoticons you&#8217;ll be able to type &#8220;flirt<br \/>\nKeri&#8221; and have everyone in the room see you bat your eyes at Keri.<\/p>\n<p>If I&#8217;m in as &#8220;Rocky&#8221; (TaleRocker) and you&#8217;re in the room with me<br \/>\nand &#8220;Parsley&#8221; you&#8217;ll read, &#8220;Rocky bats his eyes at Parsley.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The game system (SlashMUD) has been under development by Koryn<br \/>\nGrant (&#8220;Doctor&#8221; Koryn Grant) and runs on a Mac OS. I May be able to run<br \/>\nit by getting myself a cable modem connection and keeping as spiffy and<br \/>\nfast a Mac (PPC \/ G3 or better \/ cheap fast iMac will work) dedicated<br \/>\nto sitting there, acting as a server.<\/p>\n<p>Might have to hook with a Mac Friendly web provider&#8230; (he shrugs).<\/p>\n<p>But anyway.<\/p>\n<p>I woke up with a friendly feeling spirit hovering over me (a ball<br \/>\nof white smokey &#8216;substance&#8217;? Asked if it was a lost soul, would it<br \/>\nplease leave. and when I was wondering if it was more like an<br \/>\ninspiration looking for somebody to inspire I couldn&#8217;t get back to<br \/>\nsleep and look where I am now?)<\/p>\n<p>Heaven Help Us. They<br \/>\nstand up to five feet &#8216;tall&#8217; and may have a diameter of about six to<br \/>\neight feet. (I&#8217;ll work out the metrics shortly) They have rudimentary<br \/>\n&#8216;hands&#8217; and use their other six &#8216;legs&#8217; to walk around. They have &#8216;feet&#8217;<br \/>\nthat are more like hooves than feet. They will be able to produce one<br \/>\nsuit of Tiger Suit Armour per game week (and be able to spit or shoot<br \/>\nwebbing at &#8216;targets&#8217; once or twice a day, so they&#8217;ll be valuable<br \/>\nfriends, and an enormously rich possibility for Role Play. They will<br \/>\nhave stingers and will develop the ability to paralyze NPCs with<br \/>\nincreasing accuracy and will thusly enable &#8216;younger&#8217; characters an<br \/>\nopportunity to gain a lot of experience very quickly. They will be<br \/>\nwatched closely, anybody who abuses their powers will discover his or<br \/>\nher character had developed a debilitating illness and lost half his or<br \/>\nher HP and webbing and stinging levels will reset to one any time they<br \/>\ntry to train for higher levels.<\/p>\n<p>They have been hunted to near extinction by Sectoids.<\/p>\n<p>(***Sectoids are Insect-Human Hybrids that were developed, in<br \/>\npre-written-history, by &#8220;The Brotherhood&#8221;. The Brotherhood (sometimes<br \/>\ncalled the Brotherhood of Power or the Brotherhood of Knowledge) was a<br \/>\nwill-to-power &#8216;alliance&#8217; of very powerful beings [ members of &#8220;The<br \/>\nFirst Race&#8221;]. The Brotherhood tried several experiments to breed a<br \/>\nperfect slave race and Sectoids were one of their nearly successful<br \/>\n&#8216;products&#8217;. Most Sectoids have a hive mentality and, while they find<br \/>\nmost sentient species inedible, they really really hate Mammals,<br \/>\nReptiles, and especially Flying species with every fiber in their<br \/>\nbeings.<br \/>\nA small but significant minority of Sectoids are born with<br \/>\nnear-human faces that are usually hideously malformed. These &#8216;ugly<br \/>\nones&#8217; were either eaten or driven off by &#8216;True Sectoids&#8217;. Most of the<br \/>\nSectoids you will see in Aerendel are from this group. L&#8217;Haeren (the<br \/>\nNearly Immortal Prince of Aerendel) has promised sanctuary to any<br \/>\nmember of any species as long as they abide by the laws and customs of<br \/>\nthe Principality. Some Sectoids are truely grateful for this<br \/>\nacceptance, some are spies for their species.)<\/p>\n<p>***Tiger Spiders &#8220;had an epiphany&#8221; when they realized they would<br \/>\nhave to form an alliance with the &#8216;Two Legs&#8217; or face total annihilation<br \/>\nas a species. Many Tiger Spiders are gifted &#8220;Psidahrians&#8221; (Extra-<br \/>\nSensory Types who can communicate with ESP and sometimes spend<br \/>\nlifetimes learning to control &#8220;Other Psycho-kinetic &#8216;Talents'&#8221;. The<br \/>\nfirst Tiger Spiders (Nicknamed as such because of the yellow and black<br \/>\nstripes on their legs) who contacted the &#8216;Two Legs&#8217;, brought them gifts<br \/>\nof Spider-Silk Armour (light weight, extremely protective, and better<br \/>\nthan average in resiliency\/longevity). The armour is so light, one<br \/>\nDruid commented, &#8220;it feels more like an aura than any armour.&#8221; and that<br \/>\nnickname stuck.<\/p>\n<p>Spider Silk Auras will be available to all races as part of a<br \/>\n&#8220;Newbie Kit&#8221; that everyone will find in their possession when they<br \/>\nwander into Aerendel. It is basically invisible, and so protective that<br \/>\nit might make gaming boring for hard-core gamers. {Throw it away or<br \/>\nsell it (when shops start buying things) and equip yourself rather<br \/>\nnicely. Then go fight the monsters by following the trail away from the<br \/>\n&#8220;peaceniks and assorted weirdoes&#8221; who don&#8217;t want to play with swords<br \/>\nand kill each other for a living.}<br \/>\n{{ We are also looking into an amulet that will turn off &#8216;hunger<br \/>\nand thirst&#8217; so pure Role Players won&#8217;t have to dehydrate and starve to<br \/>\ndeath and find themselves automatically evicted from the world \/ game<br \/>\nin the middle of a meeting of the &#8216;Council of Sentient Species&#8217; or<br \/>\nwhatever. }}<\/p>\n<p>=====<br \/>\nThis actually came to me in a dream I was standing in a field and a<br \/>\nhuge spider sent me the message, &#8220;Don&#8217;t look if you&#8217;re afraid of<br \/>\nspiders.&#8221; and a stream of knowledge that translates to: &#8220;We&#8217;re not<br \/>\ncrazy about helping your kind, but if you&#8217;ll sign a treaty with us we<br \/>\ncan teach you spells your kind has forgotten and aid some of you in<br \/>\ndeveloping your psychic talents.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen wandered into a novel I was writing very shortly after that<br \/>\ndream. (I finished writing that novel in rough form in like three<br \/>\nmonths.) Tiger Spiders appeared &#8216;out of nowhere&#8217;, took over a Palace\/<br \/>\nFortress that had been a prison used by the &#8216;Krim alliance&#8217; (Sectoids,<br \/>\nTrolls, Drax and a horde of (weak and stupid) Ghardra, led by a<br \/>\nGhardran Arch-Mage (a very dangerous creature. They created a &#8216;Pocket<br \/>\nDimension&#8217; and molded it into a corridor through which they would be<br \/>\nable to help as many living creatures escape what they feared was the<br \/>\nultimate Armageddon as possible. (more than a million years ago).<br \/>\nThey refined the dimension to the point where it could actually sense<br \/>\nthe compassionate aspirations of loving beings and open &#8216;wild<br \/>\nportals&#8217; to times and places where those compassionate beings were in<br \/>\nthe most danger and &#8216;auto morph&#8217; its interior to appear &#8216;friendly&#8217;<br \/>\nand search for safer, more idyllic times and places where those &#8216;good<br \/>\npeople&#8217; would be let go.<\/p>\n<p>The First wars ended in a stalemate and many members of the<br \/>\nFirst Race took a look at their devastation and abandoned the<br \/>\nmaterial universes altogether. Others stayed around to aid or tamper<br \/>\nwith the emerging Elvish races. It became extremely important to many<br \/>\nof them that a balance be maintained so the worlds would never again<br \/>\ncome that close to extinguishing themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Shanti and her friends became so involved with nurturing their<br \/>\nfavourite young races that they all but forgot about their Emergency<br \/>\nescape plan.<\/p>\n<p>That &#8216;Pocket Dimension&#8217; or Anomaly developed sentience itself.<br \/>\nIt also developed a longing for company and created what we now call,<br \/>\n&#8216;The Faer Realms&#8217; where it tampered with physiology, biology and<br \/>\nphysics to give some creatures that it really liked, the ability to<br \/>\nfly and live for very long stretches of time. The Anomaly discovered<br \/>\nhow to rejuvenate many of its favourites, helped them develop extreme<br \/>\nlongevity at the dna level, formed areas within itself that if felt<br \/>\nwould most entice its favourites to remain within its boundaries and<br \/>\nkeep it entertained and &#8216;busy&#8217;. But then it felt the re-emergence of<br \/>\ndangers outside and focused its attention outward into the<br \/>\n&#8216;elsewhere&#8217;, where it felt the need or desire to educate and speed up<br \/>\nthe evolution of younger, pre-sentient races. (it could always &#8216;tap<br \/>\ninto the wisdom&#8217; of members of the &#8216;First Race&#8217; and communicated,<br \/>\ntransferred information through dreams and visions. Often it was<br \/>\nunable to communicate perfectly in these ways. But it liked some of<br \/>\nthe combinations of ideas and misconceptions its &#8216;citizens&#8217; came up<br \/>\nwith and developed a fondness for absurdity as well as compassion.)<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Last Wars of Magick&#8217; (so named in the same spirit that many<br \/>\ncalled World War I on Earth, &#8216;The War To End all Wars&#8217;) Emerged on<br \/>\nthe planet where Shanti had built and molded the Anomaly. (Theories<br \/>\ninclude the possibility that members of the Brotherhood still in the<br \/>\nMaterial Universes felt the power of the Anomaly growing and became<br \/>\nvery interested in gaining access and possibly using it to go back in<br \/>\ntime and win the original &#8216;Wars&#8217; and set themselves up as the<br \/>\nvainglorious rulers of every Dimension and &#8216;reality&#8217; they could gain<br \/>\na foothold in.) Shanti (Still alive in her original form, those<br \/>\nthousands of years old (and still looked like an 18 year old) found<br \/>\nthe Highe-Elf LenJaelienne family, saw lots of goodness and &#8216;mensch&#8217;<br \/>\nqualities there and inspired and led them to the spot where she had<br \/>\ncreated the Anomaly. This took them twenty years, as they were<br \/>\nrounding up animals and out-castes from even younger races (Forest<br \/>\nElves, Delvahrians, Mer, even Dark-Elves, Drax and Sectoids who had<br \/>\nno taste for the war and\/or had rebelled against the racist<br \/>\nmegalomaniacal policies of most members of their respective races. (A<br \/>\nrelatively new race, called Humans, had emerged and reproduced at an<br \/>\ninsane rate and had all but claimed the entire planet for<br \/>\nthemselves.)<\/p>\n<p>The Brotherhood&#8217;s &#8216;Master Race&#8217; the Ghardra, appeared at the<br \/>\nbeginning of this &#8216;Last Wars Of Magick&#8217; time and threatened the<br \/>\nhumans, and everyone else, with total extinction. The Drax and<br \/>\nSectoids signed on with the Ghardra ( The Ghardra (singular=<br \/>\nGhardran) are race in which less than one percent hold all the power,<br \/>\ndo most of the thinking and plotting, and rule the other 99% by<br \/>\n&#8216;keeping them down&#8217; and &#8216;under control&#8217; in deplorable conditions that<br \/>\nmade their existence nearly impossible.)<\/p>\n<p>Back to the LenJaelienne&#8217;s, while rounding up their refugees,<br \/>\nthe husband and wife became separated, believed their spouses dead,<br \/>\nremarried humans, had children, lost their second spouses and then<br \/>\ndiscovered each other when they set sail for a &#8216;promised land&#8217; that<br \/>\nbecame Aerendel. They reached what they thought was the Island of<br \/>\nAerendel during a horrendous storm and followed an insanely<br \/>\npersistent dove up into the hills where they discovered a cave and<br \/>\nherded everyone they could save into the safety of that cave before<br \/>\nthe storm to end all storms changed the face of their planet.<\/p>\n<p>When they emerged from their cave they thought they might be the<br \/>\nonly sentient life on their planet.<\/p>\n<p>What had happened:<\/p>\n<p>When it looked like the alliance of the Ghardra, Drax, and<br \/>\nSectoids, along with Trollish conscripts (Collectively known as the<br \/>\n&#8216;Krim&#8217;) just might take the planet, Shanti remembered her Dimension<br \/>\nand went to rediscover it, and found an abundance of amazing new<br \/>\nintelligence creatures living within. Ursans (Bear like) Khatzen (Cat<br \/>\nLike) Faaxen (Fox like) Ottahrians (&#8220;Otterly delightful creatures&#8221;)<br \/>\nand many of the Faer Races emerged for the first time to what had<br \/>\nonce been the planet their ancestors had come from. They absolutely<br \/>\nloved the &#8216;real world&#8217;, which felt &#8216;fresh and new&#8217; (and &#8216;dangerous&#8217;<br \/>\nwas not in their vocabulary, but &#8216;thrilling&#8217; was. Shanti explained a<br \/>\nfew things about the danger to this world, led these new creatures<br \/>\nback through the Anomaly to a very safe time and imported military<br \/>\ngeniuses and weaponsmaster to teach them the nasty arts of saving a<br \/>\nplanet from complete annihilation. (Which later earned her the<br \/>\nnickname &#8220;The Avataress of Peace, Love and Carrying a very big<br \/>\nstick&#8221;. She then led a fully trained army out of the Anomaly, into<br \/>\nthe middle of the fracas, Was amazed herself by the appearance of<br \/>\nQaeglans (citizens of another world, which they had freely shared<br \/>\nwith Sectoids (who had been able to invade and use the Anomaly) and<br \/>\nwere repaid for their kindness by being declared enemies and hunted<br \/>\ntoward extinction in their own world, found the Anomaly and flew in,<br \/>\nsaw the hated Sectoids trying to ruin another planet, flew back,<br \/>\ngrabbed most of their people, and their families, flew out and and<br \/>\njumped into the fracas (taloned feet first). Shanti&#8217;s forces and the<br \/>\nQaeglans won. The Brotherhood was so overjoyed they tried to destroy<br \/>\nthe planet.<\/p>\n<p>Which caused a commotion in the great beyond. The Children of<br \/>\nLight, The Brotherhood, and the &#8216;disinterested&#8217; held a<br \/>\nmulti-dimensional conference, re-established the balance- sent spies<br \/>\ninto each other&#8217;s camps and severely reprimanded Shanti for &#8216;Creating<br \/>\nthe problem in the first place&#8217; and made her a &#8216;prisoner&#8217; of that<br \/>\nplanet for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>She supervised the re-establishment of civilization on the<br \/>\nplanet, which had a good head start, seeing as her people could run<br \/>\nthrough the Anomaly, find a book on technology, or even entice<br \/>\nengineers or inventors back to her world. This prompted another<br \/>\ninter-dimensional conference, in which it was decided that she would<br \/>\neither turn the Anomaly over to a committee of three highly place<br \/>\nmembers of a Triumvirate (each member appointed by the most prominent<br \/>\nmen in their Groups&#8217; hierarchies) or be hunted down and uncreated.<br \/>\nShe basically gave them the finger and disappeared, reappeared with a<br \/>\nroom full of White Dragons and told them to go ahead and try- they<br \/>\nbacked down. I&#8217;d want to find some dedicated parent type to<br \/>\nhang out in the kids&#8217; areas (invisibly?) and monitor everything that<br \/>\nhappens there.)<\/p>\n<p>In this context:<br \/>\nHealers were the strongest in the healing arts, could<br \/>\nbash away with maces and blunt weapons or be given a &#8216;staff&#8217; at<br \/>\ncharacter generation that would make them almost invulnerable to PC<br \/>\nattacks (80% plus defence bonus) the staff would shatter if ever used<br \/>\nto attack another PC.<br \/>\nQuestors weren&#8217;t quite Paladins. They were Religious<br \/>\ndevotees with weapons skills. (often sent on trumped up quests<br \/>\nbecause local authorities found them obnoxious for some reason or<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t like the way members of the opposite (or same) sex looked at<br \/>\nthem during meditation or something. They had sharp weapon skills<br \/>\n(could choose actually, but sharp was the most likely).<br \/>\nProtectors were the religious Martial Artists. They may revel in<br \/>\nsensuality and sexuality and not be the sort of people you&#8217;d want<br \/>\nyour children to hang around with, because, face it- How&#8217;re ya gonna<br \/>\nkeep em down on the farm after they&#8217;ve been &#8216;pixilated&#8217; and\/or<br \/>\nseduced by gorgeous, innocent to a fault, perfectly formed, creatures<br \/>\nwith silken butterfly shaped wings they can wrap around you, tickle<br \/>\nyour wildest fancy and revel in whatever you discover in yourself<br \/>\nthat you can share with them (before they fly away and look for<br \/>\nsomething else to tickle their fancies)? Upright Humanoids with dog heads.<br \/>\n(Loyal as hell, great healers, but they were not at all suited for<br \/>\nmilitary occupations.)<br \/>\nFaer-Elves were Mustard coloured or Green skinned, spindly<br \/>\nlittle guys who put the &#8220;P&#8221; in peevish. They invented &#8216;Faeromancy&#8217;,<br \/>\nthe non-lethal but extreme nuisance school of Magick. (since citizens<br \/>\nof the &#8216;Faer Realms&#8217; were, on the whole just about immune to death,<br \/>\nthey got real creative, and taught people how to turn whole rooms<br \/>\nfull of PCs and NPCs to sticky smelly gorp with &#8220;Chicken Soup&#8221;<br \/>\nspells. Noodly things would curl around everybody and sting them,<br \/>\nhold them immobile and zap one or two hp out of them every now and<br \/>\nthen. Oh no! Now what???<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found the print-outs of two of the 5 the text files<br \/>\n(chargen2.c and chargen3.c) that were compiled separately into<br \/>\nexecute-able programs. Everything (after the first step\/first<br \/>\nprogram was called by the menu program) had to be called by the<br \/>\nprevious program (the last thing each linked program did before it<br \/>\nshut itself off was tell the computer to wake up the next segment)<\/p>\n<p>Bad News?<\/p>\n<p>I still have to dig through a zillion boxes to find parts 1, 4 &amp; 5.<\/p>\n<p>And (get this) Part 2 is 42 pages printed in a 5 point font<br \/>\n(Microscopic) Part 3 is only 35 pages same microscopic font.<\/p>\n<p>Now the fun part.<\/p>\n<p>Each &#8220;monster&#8221; has a list of weapons it can use.<\/p>\n<p>Each &#8220;weapon type&#8221; has its distinct style of being used.<br \/>\n(Swords are &#8220;swung at&#8221; the target. Axes are &#8216;chopped at&#8217; the target..)<\/p>\n<p>Most weapons hit you on one of your body parts (arms, legs,<br \/>\nhead, neck, etc&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Magic and Psionic weapons hit you in your mind, imagination,<br \/>\nego, self-image (I got creative) &lt;wink&gt;<\/p>\n<p>You could suffer &#8216;Freeze damage from cold spells, fire damage<br \/>\nfrom fire spells, confusion damage from psionic projections, (you<br \/>\ncould die from confusion damage) (part of the psi-bolt hit you<br \/>\nroutine was to pick how it effected you, you could imagine your soul<br \/>\ncaught on fire, your private parts froze, your whole being<br \/>\nexploded&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>(I forgot about some of the &#8216;gonzers&#8217; I invented to attack<br \/>\ncharacters who specifically asked not to be able to kill either PCs<br \/>\nor &#8216;living&#8217; NPCs [ PCs are players&#8217; Characters NPCs are<br \/>\nNon-Players&#8217;-Characters or computer generated &#8216;monsters&#8217; ] [ &#8216;gonzer&#8217;<br \/>\nis the Ymmpish word for &#8216;robot&#8217;. Some gonzers look like vacuum<br \/>\ncleaners with dangerous attachments trying to kill people. Some<br \/>\ngonzers look very much like living beings. (Characters who choose not to harm<br \/>\nanyone can cast healing spells and do other good things to them. You weigh 119 lbs.You can carry 225 lbs.<br \/>\nYou have healthy fair skin, long chestnut hair and sapphire eyes.<br \/>\nYou have strong rust-coloured wings.<br \/>\nYou are wearing a light blue Ranger&#8217;s cloak.<br \/>\nYou show the mark of he Dove on the hilt of your sword.<br \/>\nYou look alert.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He seems aware of everything around him, but his heart is elsewhere.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>+++++<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;You are&#8221; stuff would be replaced by &#8220;He is&#8221; when another character<br \/>\nlooked at him, typing in a command &#8220;look Ducky&#8221; or &#8220;l Ducky&#8221; {without<br \/>\nthe quotes} the player &#8216;controling&#8217; Ducky would see all of the above<br \/>\nby typing &#8220;l me&#8221; (that&#8217;s the letter &#8220;L&#8221; in lower case if it looks like<br \/>\nthe number one.)<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the text in he &#8220;look&#8221; lines can be changed.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Obvious Occupation&#8217; (Scout, in the first line) would be a sub<br \/>\nclass of the Rangers (each sub-class is supposed to have it&#8217;s own<br \/>\nspecialities, especially in the Bard group, where a dancer would have a<br \/>\n&#8216;spell&#8217; called &#8220;Hypnotic Dance&#8221; which could mesmerize on-lookers so<br \/>\nthief characters could pick their pockets more easily, an Artist-Bard<br \/>\nwould be able to draw something or someone and then play a couple notes<br \/>\non his or her favorite musical instrument (as a concentration aid) and<br \/>\nopen a portal to that person or thing (building? area?) a Loremaster-<br \/>\nBard would be someone who specialized in studying old stories and<br \/>\nancient languages (possibly with an eye toward finding lost treasures<br \/>\nor learning magic spells that others have long since forgotten.)<\/p>\n<p>The Stat headings line and the stat line were broken up by the fact<br \/>\nthat I&#8217;m writing this on yahoo&#8217;s site and the text box appears to be 72<br \/>\ncharacters wide for some unknowable reason.<\/p>\n<p>Stats:<\/p>\n<p>Hea is health (Most role playing games call tha &#8220;Con&#8221; for constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Str is strength<\/p>\n<p>Dex = dexerity<\/p>\n<p>Agi = agility<\/p>\n<p>Per = perception<\/p>\n<p>Int = intelligence<\/p>\n<p>Wiz = wisdom<\/p>\n<p>Wil = Will power<\/p>\n<p>I.S. = inner strength<\/p>\n<p>M.P. = Magical Potential<\/p>\n<p>Voi = voice<\/p>\n<p>App = appearance<\/p>\n<p>Cha = charisma.<\/p>\n<p>there will be other stats that will be invisible, Attack bonuses,<br \/>\ndamage bonuses, defense bonuses, I don&#8217;t think the characters<br \/>\nthemselves will know if their race is comparatively slow or real quick<br \/>\nin fights. (racial round times) I also had a Magical Round time figured<br \/>\nout, thinking some races would have a slight advantage in speed over<br \/>\nanother.<\/p>\n<p>the stats themselves run from &#8220;useless&#8221; (real bad) to &#8220;unbelievable&#8221;<br \/>\n(real good).<\/p>\n<p>useless, pitiful, low, average, fair, good, great, excellent, superb<br \/>\nand unbelievable.<\/p>\n<p>Each race (sub species in the Qaeglans&#8217; case) have their own age at<br \/>\nwhich they start off as a character. this is the race&#8217;s &#8220;age of<br \/>\nresponsibility&#8221; (at which they are legally responsible for their own<br \/>\nactions.) In some Dungeons and Dragons games the characters start out<br \/>\nat an age that might be 1\/3 or 1\/4 of their way through their life<br \/>\nexpectency. (Not here) Half Elves in many D&amp;D games are &#8216;young&#8217; at 42.<br \/>\nElves (Highe Elves here) start their adventuring at 180 years old. In<br \/>\nthe real world most animals&#8217; life expectencies are pretty consistently<br \/>\nsomething like 5 times the age at which most individuals reach full<br \/>\nphysical maturity (using this formula, they figure a good average life<br \/>\nspan for humans should be 105.)<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;wirey&#8217; build description above is one of several possibilities for<br \/>\nthis race. Average build for some races would be &#8220;solid&#8221;, some are<br \/>\nthin, some are chunky. I think I&#8217;ll roll a possibility for them and let<br \/>\nthe players decide whether they&#8217;re skinny, average, fat or whathaveyou.<\/p>\n<p>night vision is something that most members of certain races are born<br \/>\nwith. many members of most races can &#8216;develop&#8217; night vision by eating<br \/>\nmagic herbs to boost their perception stats. Rock Trolls will be blind<br \/>\nin daylight<\/p>\n<p>Each race has clearly defined minimum and maximum heights (has no<br \/>\nactual effect on how the game is played, just helps you as players<br \/>\nvisualize the person you are &#8216;looking at&#8217; or playing with, or<br \/>\nwhatever.)<br \/>\nI had the character generation routines generate a random height<br \/>\nfor each character and give the players an option to choose their<br \/>\ncharacter&#8217;s own height.<\/p>\n<p>Weight is a complex computation of race, health and srength. How much a<br \/>\ncharacter can carry is computed by the weight and strenth.<\/p>\n<p>Sprites are tiny, they don&#8217;t weigh much. even at their racial max in<br \/>\nstrength they might have to get a &#8216;friend&#8217; to carry their boot around<br \/>\nfor them. Sprites will have the ability to attract animals who will<br \/>\nbond with them and carry their stuff around for them. Even if the<br \/>\ncharacer is non-combatant (protected by religious vows from being<br \/>\nslashed by PCs) their pack animals would be vulnerable. There will be<br \/>\nareas where nobody and none of their pets will ever be able to be<br \/>\nkilled. they might fall down and lapse into a coma, but they won&#8217;t die.<\/p>\n<p>Skin colours and textures will be a range of choices within that race&#8217;s<br \/>\ngroup.<\/p>\n<p>Hair colours and styles will be a racial deal (races with no hair will<br \/>\na style called &#8221; &#8221; (space) and a color called &#8220;no&#8221; &#8220;you have no hair.&#8221;<br \/>\nEyes are racial. Bird people, mer, highe elves, half-elves, characters<br \/>\nfrom the :faer: group (I&#8217;ve re-included Sartyrs as a playable race) and<br \/>\nYmmps can have &#8216;jeweled&#8217; eyes (ruby, sapphire, emerald, lapis-lazuli,<br \/>\namethyst, jade) forest elves, half elves and the furry races will have<br \/>\neye colours in keeping with their races (brown, green, amber, grey)<br \/>\nInsectes and lizard people will have black, brown, red, orange, maybe<br \/>\nall white eyes, humans will have human like eye colour choices, ymmps<br \/>\ncan choose any of the above, plus silver and gold coloured eyes.<br \/>\nWatchers will have translucent eyes. metamorphs will have to choose<br \/>\nwithin the racial limits of the race they are born as.<\/p>\n<p>wings and fur and racial specific appendages (Spider: &#8220;You have six<br \/>\nlegs and two &#8216;arms&#8217; with black and yellow stripes.)<\/p>\n<p>Each character will have an outer &#8216;garment&#8217; which they can change at<br \/>\nwill by typing &#8220;change clothes&#8221; and reading the list or typing in a<br \/>\nshort string of letters to be saved as their new clothes. (this garment<br \/>\nis pure illusion. Characters can opt to run around naked or covered<br \/>\nwith caked mud and moss if they want, and this will show here,<br \/>\nindependent of whatever in-game armour they might be wearing.)<\/p>\n<p>If a character has chosen a religion, they can show or hide a tattoo or<br \/>\ntrinket linking them with that sect. Agnostics can wear question marks,<br \/>\natheists can have and show the mark of &#8220;nothing&#8221;. each character can<br \/>\nchoose to hide of show his or her or its religious mark to everybody in<br \/>\nthe game who looks at them.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a short mood indicator, or individualization line with a<br \/>\nbunch of one or two word options, like &#8220;You look &#8211; &#8221; hungry\/tired\/<br \/>\nravishing\/ marvelous\/ agitated&#8230; I thought I&#8217;d let characters write<br \/>\ntheir own mood descriptions.<\/p>\n<p>And, finally, the bottom line is one the players can fill in with 80<br \/>\ncharacters or less or leave blank.<\/p>\n<p>Elders will be able to look at any character without that character<br \/>\nrealizing they&#8217;ve been looked at (everybody else will read,<br \/>\n&#8220;[Character&#8217;s name] looked at you.&#8221; Psi characters will know if anybody<br \/>\nlooks at anybody else and will know if one character who has opted to<br \/>\nplay PC killer sized up another character to guess whether that<br \/>\ncharacter would be an easy target or not. (The radio station&#8217;s IP address is pretty<br \/>\nconstant, but once in a while they go down and when they come back<br \/>\nup, their address has changed a bit? Gack, it&#8217;s complicated, I could<br \/>\nbe complicating it even further in my mind.)<\/p>\n<p>If any of you don&#8217;t have any idea what role playing is all about<br \/>\nyou can go to &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/mudconnect.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/mudconnect.com<\/a>&gt; and when the page loads there&#8217;s<br \/>\none of those good old fashioned pull down window things in the upper<br \/>\nright corner, (it says, &#8220;TMC Navigation&#8221;) if you click and find the<br \/>\npull down menu spring to life the first real option is I think<br \/>\n&#8220;Introduction to MUDs&#8221; highlight and click or let go and that will<br \/>\ntake you to a FAQ page. And you can read a lot of stuff that might<br \/>\neven make sense. It might be a whole lot more fun to sniff around and<br \/>\nfind a MUD or MUSH that is 99% role play and not much monster bashing<br \/>\nand learn a bunch of commands (commonly called &#8220;Socials&#8221;) so your<br \/>\ncharacter can bow and curtsey and burp and make other strange bodily<br \/>\nnoises that make kids of all ages laugh a lot.<\/p>\n<p>MUSHes are more likely to be entirely role play than MUDs.<\/p>\n<p>(I&#8217;ve been slightly cooked in the brain department lately for<br \/>\nall kinds of reasons, can ya tell? Getting things done though.) I didn&#8217;t even realize I<br \/>\nwas subconsciously patterning lots of Ymmpish Humour after (more than<br \/>\nslightly warped) Yiddish humour until years later. ((I&#8217;ve had dreams<br \/>\nin which I thought I was being in informed that I had lived in<br \/>\nEgyptian times as some kind of priest class initiate, meditating in<br \/>\npitch blackness under the great pyramid, was some kind of ascetic<br \/>\nJew in a commune something like the guys who wrote the dead sea<br \/>\nscrolls, and I was also a Hindu Indian who was conquered by Moslems<br \/>\nand initiated into some kind of Sufi Group and was sort of presented<br \/>\nto some kind of a Sheik&#8217;s daughter at some kind of banquet. she<br \/>\ndanced for me? (and later she told me about how her family had been<br \/>\npersecuted by various religious groups, and she was cute so I was<br \/>\nsympathetic as hell.) I was staring at hills that look like<br \/>\nAfghanistan and feeling wonderful that I belonged to a new culture<br \/>\nthat believed that everybody was equal, where the caste system was<br \/>\nseen as a ridiculous waste of human potential)).<\/p>\n<p>No more aside stuff: (well, almost&#8230;.)<\/p>\n<p>I **did not** get far enough to figure out how local variables and<br \/>\nglobal variables would figure into the combat routines. (A lot of<br \/>\nthings came to a grinding halt when my father died that year) (&#8212;&gt;<br \/>\nand since then, I have felt this near-paranoia, like everything I<br \/>\nwanted to do was being pulled just a couple silly millimeters beyond<br \/>\nmy grasp. If I had the $500.00 I needed to buy something, it was<br \/>\nsuddenly repriced to $550.00, If I got a bargain on some kind of<br \/>\nsoftware, all of a sudden that software was worse than obsolete, it<br \/>\nwould crash whatever I wanted to do&#8230; stuff like that.)<\/p>\n<p>the &#8220;tooHigh()&#8221; routine was based on feet, not meters. any flying<br \/>\ncreature more than 20 feet above the ground would frustrate the<br \/>\n&#8220;gonzers&#8221;, be beyond reach, but could swoop in and slash with talons<br \/>\nor stay in the air and try to hit the &#8216;gonzers&#8217; with crossbows or<br \/>\nother ranged weapons (with a % disadvantage that vanished when the<br \/>\ncharacter reached xbow or bow skills above level 5, &#8211;&gt; figured the<br \/>\nflying characters had to concentrate extra hard and work extra hard<br \/>\nto get experience so they would be as good in the air as most<br \/>\ncharacters were on the ground by the time they made it to level 5)<br \/>\n(and they would have to know more about subtle air currents than<br \/>\n&#8216;walkers&#8217; and would learn to take advantage of that by level 5. I<br \/>\nthought about tossing another disadvantage to flying characters&#8217;<br \/>\nranged weapons abilities by like giving them another variable to roll<br \/>\nagainst until their flying skills were above level 10. but there was<br \/>\ndarned little they could do with their flying skills besides show<br \/>\noff, fly in figure 8&#8217;s above the ground, take off and land&#8230; it was<br \/>\nmuch more cosmetic than real skill stuff.<\/p>\n<p>*****If I had figured out how to tell the game to count to<br \/>\nwhatever the &#8220;gonzer&#8217;s&#8221; round time was and swing again that would<br \/>\nhave gone in between the *** You now have %d Hit Points *** and<br \/>\n&#8220;return;&#8221; ***The npcs would continue to fight until they were killed,<br \/>\npassed out from lack of fatigue points or won. I never thought of<br \/>\nhaving some of them knock characters out and rob them until just<br \/>\nnow. (walk off with their readied weapon? steal a couple gold coins?)<br \/>\nI think I mentioned that most PC&#8217;s would have been bitten by a &#8216;fen<br \/>\ndragon&#8217; an aquatic mammal (glorified water rat?) with semi functional<br \/>\nwings and narcotic breath, whose bodies were usually infested with a<br \/>\nvery strange virus that brought most characters who survived the<br \/>\nfever and hallucinations back to health more quickly than npcs who<br \/>\nhadn&#8217;t been bitten and wojuld even bring them back from clinical<br \/>\ndeath (with loss of exp and possibly a level) (or a hit point or two,<br \/>\nwhich they would get back next time they trained for a higher level<br \/>\nand made it.)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the PC routine would be almost identical, but the<br \/>\nactive weapon level would have been added to the character&#8217;s Attack<br \/>\nroll (I found it intriguing to think that most characters and NPCs<br \/>\nwere fighting against themselves with the attack roll and the defense<br \/>\nroll being part of each character&#8217;s routine, as opposed to the robot<br \/>\nrolls an attack roll and the PC rolls a defense roll. I really wanted<br \/>\nto be able to conjure up a robot that would attack a PC character who<br \/>\nmight be &#8220;razzing&#8221; another PC Character for being a wimp and fighting<br \/>\nrobots instead of the real thing. I could drag out an NPC that<br \/>\n&#8216;looked&#8217; normal, but would have a fifty percent better chance of<br \/>\npounding the cement out of anyone it attacked, and could be set to<br \/>\nattack certain players by invisible elders &lt;evil grin&gt; &amp; the elders<br \/>\nwould (of course) be able to whisper to any potential defenders of<br \/>\nkarmic targets that they would be rendered unconscious if they tried<br \/>\nto enter this fight.<\/p>\n<p>GoodGuy steps forward to defend PottyMouth the Whiner.<br \/>\nLow-level-gonzer whacks GoodGuy on the head with the hilt of its<br \/>\nHumongous Claymore. GoodGuy flies several feet through the air and<br \/>\nlands with a thud. GoodGuy is unconscious. PottyMouth tries to sneak<br \/>\naway. His exit is blocked. low-level-gonzer makes an incredible swing<br \/>\nwith its humongous claymore. Anyway, one thing I discovered in my<br \/>\ncourse is Flatland Rover, a place where you can create 3D worlds for<br \/>\nfree &#8211; you create spots and then build using vectors and stuff like<br \/>\nthat. a system that starts you off with maximum hit points<br \/>\nand decent fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>you gain fatigue points as you gain levels in important things like<br \/>\nweapons skills (and now brawling) including things like fire breath<br \/>\nand clawing, and probably biting if you belong to a race that has a<br \/>\nbiting attack. (chomp)<\/p>\n<p>sigh,<\/p>\n<p>You also seem to randomly get stat boosts (if you&#8217;re lucky) when you<br \/>\ntrain.<\/p>\n<p>I had a psi character gain intelligence (go from low good to higher<br \/>\ngood?) and gain a couple psi points.
